6 Fun Virtual Games for Your Zoom Meetings

Virtually connecting with friends and family during the pandemic is more important than ever. It’s a necessity to have someone to talk to and have fun together with them.

Zoom played a major role in bringing people together through their Zoom meeting platform. These virtual meetings let us connect and bring closer to our loved ones and others were able to reconnect to old friends. It gives us the feeling that we are all in this together and together we can overcome this trial.

Because of the limited activity and strict stay-at-home policy, people need a way to have fun and enjoy themselves. One way to do this is virtual. You can connect with your friends and family plus you can have a bit of entertainment using the Zoom meeting features and some online platforms.

We can be as creative when the need arises. We will be sharing with you today how you can maximize the Zoom meeting features and some free platforms to organize and facilitate games in your virtual meetings and get together.

1. Game Night or Quiz Bowl

There’s no better way to enjoy than to have a little competition. A game night or quiz bowl is a great choice.

There’s a lot of ways to do this. Let’s keep it simple and easy for everybody. The simplest way to do this is to utilize the chatbox.

First, you have to prepare some categories and questions. Secondly, set the guidelines on how to participate or answer the questions. For example, you need to say the word go before they can send the answer in the chatbox.

You can also use a slide deck to show the series of questions.

A more interactive and a little bit techie way to run a quiz competition on Zoom is using Slido. Slido (pronounced as Sly-doh) is an easy-to-use Q&A and polling platform for live or remote meetings, events, classes, and webinars. Source: https://community.sli.do/about-slido-32/what-is-slido-511

You can set up a Slido account called “Engage” and run unlimited quizzes. Check out how easy to set up and run live quizzes. https://community.sli.do/live-polls-quizzes-and-surveys-55/run-a-quiz-via-slido-538

2. Bring Me Game

The ideal number of participants in the bring me game is between 10 to 20. To make this game successful, everyone is encouraged to be on camera.

It’s a simple game but can still be competitive especially if there are prizes at stake. It is easy as asking the participants to bring the item you asked for and show it to the camera.

The first to bring the item wins. You can also add a twist by telling them to bring 5 things that start with A.

3. Bingo

This is a classic. Bingo has been around for ages. You can facilitate this game virtually.

You can even generate prizes by selling a bingo card per entry. The more cards they paid for, the more chances of winning and the bigger the prize fund.

To get this started, set a price per bingo card. Participants need to submit their cards in advance as your documentation. They can take a picture of their actual bingo card or create one using apps in the play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=es.bingo.cartonesbingo&hl=en&gl=US

During the actual game, It’s best to manually draw the letter-number combination.

4. Majority Wins

This is an excellent way to use the polling feature of Zoom. What you’ll be going to do is prepare a series of questions and participants to choose an answer.

Before revealing the result of the poll, you ask the participants to bet which answer is the most popular among the group.

For every question, you need to create 1 poll so that you can immediately share the results.

5. Virtual Search

Zoom has great features for team collaboration. It has an annotation tool wherein the speaker or if allowed, the participant can write notes on the shared screen.

We can utilize this feature for a quick icebreaker or exercise during team meetings. We can use the annotation tool to mark the words you can find in the word search puzzle.

You can also use the annotation in a find the hidden objects game. Participants can mark or encircle the object they found.

6. The Boat is Sinking

I’m not sure if you are familiar with this parlor game. This is a grouping game. The game master will say “The boat is sinking! The boat is sinking! Group yourselves into three or any number he wants.

The players will then group themselves according to the number instructed.  The goal here is to eliminate players every time a grouping is called. Those who failed to huddle with the group that has an appropriate number of members are removed from the game.

This could be an original. So far, I haven’t seen or knew anybody who did this. You can virtually facilitate the Boat is Sinking game using the breakout room features.

When the game master cries out the grouping number, the participants will jump over the different breakout rooms. You need to set the breakout room setting to let participants choose a room and allow them to return to the main session anytime.

Those participants who went in last and were not able to group themselves with the appropriate number of members will be eliminated.

Have fun in your virtual get-together and team meetings!
